Troubleshooting
Solution
Dead in Water
Defective Power Supply, Cable or Pump
1) Check voltage from Power Supply (~ 30 Vdc)
2) Check continuity/voltage through cable (~30 Vdc)
3) Check for water entry to Pump
4) Check voltage to Pump Motor (~30 Vdc)
The problem lies where the power dies.
Unit not moving
0 Vdc to Drive Motor or Defective Drive Motor
1) Check voltage to Drive Motor (~18-20 Vdc)
If the voltage to the Drive Motor is ~18Vdc then the motor is defective and should be replaced. If the voltage to the Drive Motor is 0Vdc then the Pump Motor should be replaced.
No Suction
Defective Cable or Defective Pump Motor
1) Check voltage from Power Supply (~ 30 Vdc)
2) Check voltage through cable (~30 Vdc)
3) Check voltage to Pump Motor (~30 Vdc)
The problem lies where the power dies.
Unit Standing/Making Frequent Turns
Defective Pump Motor or Defective Sensor Wheels
1) Check for water entry to Pump Motor
2) Check continuity through Sensor Wheels
If there is continuity to through the Sensor Wheels then there is an issue in the programming and the Pump Motor should be replaced. If there is a defect found with the sensor wheels then the Chassis has to be replaced.

Solution
Unit Spinning (NC71)
One side of Drive Motor is Defective
1) Rotate motor by hand to feel resistance
2) Test Drive Motor independently
If there is a large amount of resistance in one side of motor; then the motor is defective.
Unit Floating
Old Style Filter Bag or Fault in Vertical Sensor
1) Check Filter Bag and replace with new if necessary-test
2) Check sensor in pump motor
If the cleaner has an old style filter bag and the vertical sensor is ok; then test the cleaner with a new style filter bag.
Unit Not Climbing
Worn Brushes/Ring, Defective Cable, Drive or Pump Motor
1) Check for wear on brushes/ring
2) Check voltage from Power Supply (~ 30 Vdc)
3) Check continuity/voltage through cable (~30 Vdc)
4) Check for water entry to Pump
5) Check voltage to Pump Motor (~30 Vdc)
6) Check voltage to Drive Motor (~18-20 Vdc)
7) Check continuity of sensor wheels
Change all worn parts if necessary. Check the vertical sensor and any sign of water entry to the pump motor. The problem lies where the power dies.

Mine packed up, no movement at all but it was an easy fix::
ReplyDeleteRemove the collector bag to reveal the fan housing/control unit, remove the 8 or so screws, (make sure you mark it to ensure it goes back in the same place in case the gasket has moulded to that position) you will see there is a small PCB on the actual motor, on the underside there is a small 2 wire plug in connector, remove this and you will probably see that the positive (red) wire is burnt, on my 1st attempt I re-crimped the connectors but it packed up after a couple of weeks so on the 2nd fix I cut the wires, extended (soldered) them and then soldered the wires directly to the motor connections, I also re-soldered the other 4 joints on the board just in case, it might sound a bit difficult but honestly its an easy fix for someone who's fairly DIY.
By the way I tried the unit in the workshop bench (upside down) and it didn't work, assuming I hadn't managed to fix it it put it the pool anyway and hey presto all working a treat so I assume theres some sore of mercury switch or similar inside it.
My opinion on the Smartpool Nitro is that it isn't a scratch on the Tigershark, Smartpool profess it cleans to within microns but that quite frankly is impossible due to the fact that there are 5mm ventilation holes in the collector bag, as soon as this one packs up for good I'm going back to a Tigershark.
Hope this helps.

anyone know how to just replace the pump drive motor part? it's like a 12 dollar part and I hate paying 200 for that but I cant seem to get the control board off the motor..any ideas?
