Quick & Easy Spa & Hot Tub Maintenance Guide

http://www.marinapoolspaandpatio.com/ makes it simple and easy to maintain your spa or hot tub!

INITIAL START-UP:

While your spa is filling, add 2 oz/250 gal of PROTECT PLUS to the water. After spa is filled, start up the equipment and let this circulate for approximately 2 hours before adding any additional chemicals. OPTIONAL: Add entire bottle of PERFECT pH to water at this time and circulate for several hours. This is a nice option in that it automatically adjusts your pH for you for 3-4 months until you're ready to drain & refill. OPTIONAL: if using the NATURE2 or SPA FROG, install at this time - follow directions carefully. Bromine can NOT be used with the Nature2 but chlorine can -- the Spa Frog works with either chlorine or bromine.
  1. Test water using either a liquid test kit or TEST STRIPS to determine pH and Total Alkalinity readings - you should not have to do this if you are using Perfect pH. pH should range between 7.2 and 7.8 and Total Alkalinty should range from 80-100 ppm.
  2. Add 1 1/2 tsp/250 gal of CHLORINATING GRANULAR or SODIUM DICHLOR directly in front of one of the jets to establish a bromine or chlorine reserve.
  3. Add BROMINE or CHLORINE TABLETS to skimmer basket or FLOATING DISPENSER or add additional Chlorinating Granular to maintain a bromine or chlorine reading of 3-5 ppm on your test kit. To ensure that you don't "over-do", start with 1 or 2 tablets and add more as needed.
DAILY/WEEKLY: (depending on spa usage)

1. Make sure you have a sufficient sanitizer residual level at all times, especially after the spa is used as this usually causes the residual level to go down. Again, you do this by maintaining your bromine or chlorine level at 3-5 ppm. If you are using the Nature2 or Spa Frog, you will need to add SPA SHOCK or BROMA SPA on a regular basis per the label directions.
2. Test pH and maintain at 7.2-7.8. Maintain Total Alkalinity at 80-100 ppm.

WEEKLY:

1.Add PROTECT PLUS (1 oz /250 gal) once a week to protect spa from stains, scale & corrosion and to clarify the water.
2. Shock at least once a week to destroy organic contaminants and/or combined chlorine/bromine. Use SPA SHOCK or BROMA SPA per label directions.
OCCASIONALLY:
1. Test & maintain Calcium Hardness at 200-400 ppm. If low, add CALCIUM HARDNESS UP per label directions.
2. If you have a lot of foam or subs, add DEFOAMER directly to the surface.
3. If you have a bathtub ring, scum line or oils, add NATURAL CLEAR at the rate of 1 oz/500 gal once a week or more
as needed.
4. Clean filters at least once a month with FILTER FRESH to remove scale, oils and mineral build up.
5. Clean water line with a TILE CLEANER - do NOT use any household product as it tends to create foam & suds, alter
pH and add unnecessary phosphates to your water.
6. Use SPA GLOSS to wax the surface while it is drained.
7. Change your water every 3-6 months.

The Association of Pool & Spa Professionals (APSP) has just released a list of the top five reasons to buy a HOT TUB and here are just a FEW great hot tubs available NOW at Marina Pool, Spa & Patio starting at just $4,595.

1. HOT TUBS ARE AFFORDABLE.
Portable hot tubs are more affordable than ever before, due to efficient manufacturing practices and competing brands. "We've managed to merge higher-end features into our hot tubs while lowering the price points, because that's what customers are demanding," said Maurizio Vozza, CEO and president of Nordic Hot Tubs.

2. HOT TUBS FIT ANYWHERE.
The portable hot tub industry has adapted to consumers lifestyles. Hot tubs come in all different shapes and sizes, from two-person hot tubs to 10-person models. Hot tubs can be installed indoors or outdoors, in as little area as 64 square feet or less. Another emerging trend in hot tubs is swim spas, designed for those wanting the convenience of swimming, training or just relaxing. "Someone that is in the market for a portable hot tub/spa would be amazed that for a few thousand dollars more, they gain all the features of a lap pool and a therapy unit on top of all the spa features they were looking for," said Jon Wilson, vice president, operations and new product development at Rio Swim/Spas. "Everyday folks to Olympic medalists are enjoying these models."

3. YOU CAN USE A HOT TUB YEAR ROUND NO MATTER WHERE YOU LIVE.
Hot tubs can be used year-round in any climate. Many owners use their hot tubs more in the winter, when bubbly heat remarkably offsets falling snow. But for those who don't want their hot tub delivered until spring, Ken Janowicz, sales manager for Kasper's Aqua Clear in Easton, Pa., recommends acting now. "You can leave a deposit securing the wintertime sale and be the first in line for delivery in the spring time," he said. "It's like beating rush hour and getting a great deal at the same time."

4. HOT TUBS ARE EASY TO MAINTAIN AND ARE ENERGY EFFICIENT.
Newer technology has allowed the hot tub owner to keep water clean and clear with a couple of minutes of weekly maintenance. Now models are being produced that will meet new APSP energy efficiency standards and to meet consumers' demands for greener products.

5. HOT TUBS PROVIDE "VACATIONS/THERAPY" 365 DAYS OF THE YEAR!
Hot tubs provide the ideal venue to connect with family and friends. And they provide a multitude of health benefits ranging from stress reduction to muscle recovery. "We've really seen a push toward hot water therapy, especially for sufferers of fibromyalgia," said Nordic's Vozza. "Having a place to relax, connect and heal after a long day can really be the ultimate gift that keeps on giving."
